Princess Ceridwen is betrothed to a man she doesn’t know. Her father arranged the match, though he refuses to tell her where he met the groom and, in fact, seems almost vague when pressed. Ceri is not thrilled with this development, but her old nurse Yetta is downright frightened. She insists that the groom is not a man at all but one of the Fair Folk, intent on marrying Ceri and holding her prisoner in his castle beneath the hills.
To escape her fate, Ceri must undertake a journey to her bridegroom’s home country, full of tricky sprites, dangerous spirits, and animals with strangely human eyes. The way is fraught with peril, the greatest of which lies in the castle itself, for the bridegroom is a lord of the Fae, fair to look upon and silver-tongued. It will take all of Ceri’s guile and strength to escape, but the longer she stays, the more she begins to question if escape is truly what she wishes…
